Monte Brooke Penn, age 67, of Glen Rock, PA, formerly of Mt. Airy, MD, died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Barbara J Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury, PA.
He was born January 22, 1947 in Frederick, MD, the son of the late Milton Gosnell Penn and the late Hazel Eveline Penn (nee Warfield). He was affectionately known as “Brookie” to his family and friends.
He graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1965. He joined the U.S. Air force and served during the Vietnam era. Brookie had several jobs over the years, starting out in Lindsay Browning’s Grocery Store in Mt. Airy. He retired from Tyco in 2008.
He was a life member of the American Legion Gold Star Post #191 in Mt. Airy and the VFW in New Freedom, PA, Post 7012. Also a Life member of the North American Hunting Club and a member of the NRA.
Brookie was a gun collector and he enjoyed the outdoors. Every year he looked forward to deer hunting camp and fishing trips.
Monte Brooke was twice married. He is survived by two sons; Lance Penn and Cole Penn. He is also survived by two step-children, James Baughman and Lisa (Baughman) Haas. He leaves three grandchildren, Trevor, Hunter and Brian Penn. Also he leaves step-grandchildren Paige and Abby Baughman and Neil Haas and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Brookie is survived by one sister, Nancy Moss of Manchester, MD and by one brother Thomas Penn of New Freedom, PA.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD (beside South Carroll High School) on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 10:00-12:00 noon at which time Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 Noon at the Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Monroe officiating.
Inurnment will be Private at the convenience of the family.
Reception will be held at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home catering facility
