Nancy Marie Humphreys
Nancy Marie Conrow was born in Bridgeton, NJ on August 30, 1928 to Charles M. and Bertha Milligan Conrow. She grew up in nearby Vineland, NJ. Her sister Thelma Jane and her brother Robert predeceased her. Nancy graduated from Vineland High School and then attended Philadelphia Business School to learn shorthand, typing and other secretarial skills.
In the spring of 1949, she went roller skating with friends in Ocean City, NJ. While there she met US Air Force Master Sergeant Robert John Humphreys and they fell in love at first sight. They married at a simple civil service in her parents’ house on September 3, 1949. They lived happily, but frugally, on a military salary and her $35 per week secretarial job at the Vineland National Bank.
When Nancy gave birth to their only child, Robert Scott, she quit work and became a full-time mother. About 1956 they bought and moved to their first house in Millville NJ. They became active at Westside Methodist Church. Nancy volunteered her time at Western Elementary School and for the March of Dimes. Nancy loved dogs, and she had many.
In 1960, they moved to Milford Mill Road in Baltimore County and joined Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. She developed life-long friendships there with neighbors and others she met. In 1970 Nancy resumed working as a secretary at Montgomery Wards to help with college expenses for her son. Nancy went on to rejoice in the marriage of her son to Anne Sener and the birth of her grandchildren David, Michael and John. Nancy suffered the sudden loss of her husband of 45 years in 1994.
In 2000, Nancy was diagnosed with hydrocephalus which she battled for the remainder of her life. She was later blessed with the marriages of her three grandchildren and the birth of her four great grand children, Sienna, Travis, Lane and Ella.
After 89 years of loving and caring for her family and others around her, Nancy passed peacefully during breakfast on August 13, 2018.
