Nell Jones Patton, age 83, of Sykesville, Maryland died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Ridge Overlook, Westminster, Maryland.
Born September 27, 1929 in Jefferson, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Donald Jones and late Virgie Jones Marsh (nee Hampton). She and her late husband, Howard Henry Patton were married 57years, until his death on November 6, 2004.
At Nell's insistence, Howard purchased her childhood home at an estate auction and together, they set about renovating it; or rather, Howard renovated and Nell decorated. They enjoyed the home with family and friends and for many years hosted the annual Patton Family Reunion.
She also enjoyed traveling, and after getting over her fear of flying, traveled through Europe, as well as a cruising the QE II. She looked forward to attending her husband's yearly WWII Army Reunion. Held in different cities every year, Howard and Nell hosted two such reunions in Baltimore.
She took great pleasure and pride in spending time with her granddaughters, Fallon and Sophia, who were also her favorite photography subjects. An animal lover, she spent a lot of time taking care of her many dogs and cats throughout the years. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Donald H. and Vicky A. Patton of Mt. Airy, son and daughter-in-law David S. and Kellie E. Patton and granddaughters, Fallon and Sophia Patton, all of Finksburg. Also, sister Donna Neal and husband Jack of Jefferson, North Carolina, brother-in-law William A. Patton of Petersburg, Virginia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Delaware, Virginia, and North Carolina.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 6-8 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with a memorial service at 7:30 PM with Chaplain David Bare of Carroll Hospice-Dove House officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, Inc. - Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
