Mr. Nowlin Strawsburg Phillips, 90, of Hanover, Pa., formerly of Ellicott City and Eldersburg, Md. died after a long illness of cancer on December 30, 2005,at his home surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Nowlin was the youngest of five children, born on December 18, 1915 to the late Noah W. and Josephine (Watkins) Phillips of Long Corner, Md.

He graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1934. From 1940 until his retirement in 1980 he worked in Baltimore for A.D.T. Alarm Systems.

He loved attending church, listening to Dr. Charles Stanley sermons, square dancing, playing cards, attending Blue Grass Assoc. in Sykesville, flying to visit granddaughters and their families in San Diego, Ca. and Jaffrey, Nh. He took pride in mowing his own and his son’s lawn and growing beautiful roses and tomatoes.

He was a former member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Sykesville, Md.

He was the adoring husband of Hattie Belle (Lugenbeel) Phillips for 63 years who preceded him in death on November 21, 2002.

He is survived by one daughter, Ruth Waskey of Essex, Md., three sons, Dr. R. Wayne Phillips of Hanover, Pa., Richard N. Phillips of Catonsville, Md., and Paul W. Phillips of Allentown, Pa., 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM on Sunday, January 1, 2006 at Burrier Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old liberty Road, Winfield, MD 21784.

Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, January 2, 2006 at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Roland (Bud) Brown of St. Paul United Methodist Church, of Sykesville, Md. officiating.

Interment immediately following at Morgan Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Woodbine, Md.
