Paul Richard Baker a long-time resident of Carroll County died, Thursday, November 2, 2017.

Paul was born in Hagerstown, Maryland to Paul F. and Hilda M. Baker on July 7, 1927. Upon graduating from Annville, PA high school in 1945 he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific theater in WWII.

When he was discharged, Paul moved to Carroll County where he began working for his uncle Donald Magin on the farms he owned in the southern part of the county in the area of Gypsy Hill. One day while escorting a younger cousin to the school bus, he spied Janet Hann and a romance was born. The two were married in January of 1948.

Paul later worked for the state of Maryland for a number of years from which he retired in 1987. His wife Janet died in 1990.

Paul is survived by his sister Iris Kaufman; his daughter Deborah Baker of Arlington, TX. His son Terry and wife Cynthia of Summit, NJ as well as grandson Kendall Baker of San Francisco, Ca; granddaughter Carly Baker Llewellyn and husband Taylor Llewellyn of Washington, DC and great grandchildren Baker and Hopkins Llewellyn.

Memorial Service will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784 (Beside South Carroll High School) on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Private Inurnment.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department of which Paul was a member for many years and where he served as one of its first Presidents.
