Peter DeWitt Blauvelt was an amazing man. Married to the same women he fell in love with freshman year of college for 59 years. His career was law enforcement in a variety of garb because he honored integrity, honesty, and perseverance. He taught his children the importance of personal authenticity. His defining work was as the Director of School Security for the Prince Georges County public school system and later as an author and consultant to school systems all over the country. He believed in the importance of keep kids safe- it was his professional mantra.
Peter served in the United States Army when his wife and peers were finishing college. He would later complete his degree at the University of Maryland with small children under his feet when he tried to study.
He served his community through the United Methodist Church, Rotary International (Bladensburg and Romney), Ruritan, and Warm the Children.
Wherever he went he made people laugh with the edge of a joke, a word of deep wisdom, and the warmth of his presence. If you knew him, you were the better for it.
He is survived by his phenomenal wife Louise McAlister Blauvelt; his children Michael Field Blauvelt, Laura Blauvelt Easto and her husband David, his daughter in law Kim Blauvelt; his grandchildren whom he adored Sarah Easto Morton, Peter Lee Easto, Zachary DeWitt Blauvelt, and Catlin Elizabeth Blauvelt, his amazing sisters Dana Blauvelt Garbis and her husband Andrew, Anne Blauvelt Wettlin and her husband Joe.
