As a 1957 Glen Burnie High School Classmate wrote in 1956, “A nice kid with a big pile of muscles and a sweet disposition”, thank you Ho’se!
Raymond (Ray) Lewis Wright, Jr. joined his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years in heaven on 7 December 2021, unexpectedly. He spent two years missing her dearly but chose to use that time to minister and comfort dear friends who were grieving like himself.
He joined his precious sweetheart, Ramona, as well as his Mother and Father, Mary Louisa (Abel) Wright and Raymond Lewis Wright, Sr. in Heaven Tuesday morning. He was no doubt greeted by Joanie Cavey, his childhood friend, and countless other sweet friends and precious Aunts and Uncles.
An unwavering servant of Our Lord Jesus, he is no doubt in His presence. He spent every Sunday in church and enjoyed ice cream as a treat on the ride home. His church family and bible study boys are missing his contagious smile and his encouragement he gave to anyone who needed it.
A true renaissance man, he started the Homestead Enterprises, Inc. back in the 70’s and his children have many fond memories and skills from the making in bread, apple butter, candy, and selling the goods that helped support the family. He also worked at Department of Defense for 36 years and worked as a contractor for an additional 10 years. He was a computer analyst and software engineer by trade and his coworkers adored him.
He built his home and garage. He loved driving his tractor and mowing the lawn. He was just on his tractor less than a month ago, flying around the property on a lovely day. He loved his property, his barn, his tractor, his family, and especially Ramona. He also was Ramona’s caregiver in her later life, and they ran the roads, visiting and ministering to others.
He had to travel for long periods of time for his work at times and his mantra was Psalm 91
His love and care for his family was greatly apparent. He wrote in a Christmas Card to a friend in 2020, “I love my family, don’t mean to brag we have been blessed by God.” He is survived by his sister, Robin Lee Westre. Also, his three children Raymond Lewis Wright III and Daughter in Law Kerri; Tamara Darlene Bassler and Son in Law Allen and Jennifer Mary Farrell and Son in Law John. He is survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and 12 nieces and nephews.
The Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Road Winfield, MD 21784.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Airy Full Gospel Church 13949 Penn Shop Road Mt. Airy, MD 21771.
Interment Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he[b] loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

We are grateful to our Lord for His mercy, continued protection, and kindness He has shown through this very difficult time. We are so very thankful for the nursing staff at Frederick Memorial, Chaplain Sharon, friends, church members and family that have surrounded us in love and support.
