Richard W. Anderson, SR, 90 years old, died peacefully at home in Waverly Woods on January 19th after a brief illness. He is survived by his son, Richard Anderson (Kathy Ariano) of Columbia, his grandchildren: Michael Anderson (Jennie Graham) of Catonsville, MD ; Melissa Anderson of Woodstock, MD; E “Robyn” Anderson of Round Hill, VA, and great-grandchildren Kylie (15), Ariana (6), and Tyler (3).
Richard also leaves behind sisters Kay Anderson Rudd of Cumberland, MD, Patricia Anderson Bishop of Allyn, WA, brother-in-law A. Roberty of Belair, MD and many nieces and nephews.
He is pre-deceased by his wife of 63 years, Hilda Roberty Anderson, and brothers Harry, Fred and Bruce Anderson.
Born in Ft. Ashby, West Virginia in 1924, to Harry and Alta McDonald Anderson, ‘Dick’ lived most of his early life in West Virginia and Cumberland, MD. An Army sergeant in WWII, he served as a gunner, and tank commander, having landed with the second wave at Normandy Beach. After the war he attended Fairmont State College in Fairmont, West Virginia from which he graduated with a BS in Business Management.
Dick was very active in his church, St. Alphonsus Rodriguez in Woodstock, MD, where he spent many hours in the company of great friends and members of the Counting and Lawn Care committees.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 14th at 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Church, 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstock, MD 21163. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Aphonsus Rodriguez Church.
