Robert E. “Bob” Franklin, age 81, of Mt. Airy, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at his home.
He was born November 27, 1936 in Taylorsville, MD., the son of the late James Arthur Franklin and the late Helen Sier Franklin.
He was the loving husband of Sharon Wright Franklin for 59 years.
Bob graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1954. He served in the National Guard for 9 years. Bob was employed with Kettler Brothers for 38 years; after retirement he was a school bus driver. He was one of the original founders of the MAYAA Football program and coached youth football and baseball for many years. Bob was an avid golfer and loved playing with his golf group, the Hackers. He enjoyed playing cornhole and various card games and was also a passionate Orioles and Ravens fan. Bob was a supporter of South Carroll High School Athletics and enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids participate in multiple sports throughout high school and college. He loved spending time with family and friends.
Father of Jeff Franklin (Lisa) of Shrewsbury, NJ, Sheri Franklin Maring (Gary), Michael Franklin (Shawn), Chris Franklin (Christina), all of Woodbine, MD; brother of Betty Franklin Fowler (Robert) and J. William Franklin (Sonia); grandfather of Corey and Kelsey Franklin, Stephanie and Stacie Maring, Sam, Tori, and Julia Franklin, Nick and Jenna Carnato; aunt, Isabelle Vollmer (Paul); numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM; where Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Sherri Comer-Cox officiating; Interment Taylorsville U.M. Church Cemetery; Memorial Contributions can be made to: Taylorsville U.M. Church, 4356 Ridge Road, Mt.
