Robert Edward Muller, Sr.,89 of Thurmont, MD, died of natural causes in his home Thursday, November 3, 2016. He was the 6th born son of 7 children to Maurice Hugo Muller and his wife, Mildred Leaurie Porter-Muller of the Winfield area of Carroll County, MD. He was born on October 20, 1927.
Alias; Bob, Uncle Bob, and Pap.
He grew up on a small family farm that provided for a family during a difficult era. At an early age, he helped with his family’s huckstering route that collected produce, eggs and poultry to be sold in a stall at the Holland’s Market in Baltimore. For a period of time he had to take on this route by himself when his Father had broken both arms.
Not long after, he met the love of his life at a movie theatre. All she had to do was smile. He married Ellen Louise Barnes on May 28, 1949. They were united for 66 years of marriage as of her passing on October 22, 2015. They were blessed with seven children who made the family bloom: Robert E. Muller, Jr. and his wife Maryam, Daniel Moses Muller, James E. Muller, Gary L. Muller and his wife Lynn, Steven M. Muller and his wife Brenda, Mark D. Muller, Sr. and Karen E. Swope and her husband, Shane; as well as seventeen grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; Plus 3 daughter-in-laws that are no longer in marriage, but are still apart of this wonderful family: Mandy, Anna and Wanda, Grace Marie Weidner is his only remaining sister. Of his family, Bob is preceded by his parents and his brothers and sisters: Mary (stillbirth), Henry Thomas Muller, William Maurice Muller, Laura Virginia Beavers, and John Wesley Muller.
Bob Muller had a seventh grade education, but he was limitless. He started a thriving farm in Winfield. He was very active in the Winfield-Taylorsville Lion’s club. He is the last of the founding board members who started the Winfield Fire Company. In 1960, he and his wife helped form the Salem Bottom’s Boy’s 4-H Club. Also in the early 60’s, Bob was named the “Young Farmer of the Year,” by the Farm Bureau. In 1976, He and his wife subdivided their farm land into a development by the name of Bob-El Farms. This name was carried on with the family farm corporation purchased in 1976 and farmed in Rocky Ridge, MD until 1985. Until retirement, he worked in construction and carpentry, but he best served as a Pastor’s husband when his wife went into the ministry in 1988. Bob Muller served in the Methodist Men’s organization throughout his life in every location. Upon the decision to retire, Bob Muller designed and built his own home with the help and guidance of family and friends. When they “retired,” they started a Bed & Breakfast (also using the name “Bob-El”) to serve the fishing community of Quinby, VA. During this time, he was involved with his wife’s continued ministry on the shore. In 2002, they moved closer to home due to health reason, just in time to be a hand to their daughter with their last grandchild. The story of Robert and Ellen Muller will never end as long as their family keeps going on.
Mr. Muller is also preceded in death but joined together in everlasting life with his wife (passed on October 22, 2015), his beloved son, Daniel M. Muller (passed on November 11, 1987) and dear grandson, Jonathan Gary Muller (passed Dec 22, 2014).
