Roy Coghill, age 81, of Sykesville, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at University Hospital in Baltimore. He was born February 11, 1931 the son of the late Edgar Rudolph Coghill and Thelma Hazel (Burton) Coghill. He was the husband of the late Myrt M. (Shelton) Coghill of Sykesville. Roy spent his early years in Hartwood, VA. He served in the U.S. Navy, and after being discharged he worked in construction from 1950-1957. In 1957 he joined the Roland Larkin Co., doing demolition work. He was Vice President of that company until 1977, after which he worked in the Engineering division of the Housing Authority of Baltimore City. He was a member of Zion Methodist Church in Shipley. He enjoyed riding horses, hunting and playing his Martin guitar. He raced modified stock cars in the 1950s and 60s throughout the East Coast. Survived by his daughter Linda Jean Lee; stepchildren Grace and Jack Poole, Joanie and Jerry Dunn, Christina Levinson, Andrew and Valerie Humen, David Humen and partner John Kane, Thomas Humen and grandchildren Jacob and William Rudasill and several other grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Carol Coghill, and brother, Edgar “REDS” Coghill and stepdaughter Karen Lingo. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Friday from 3-7 PM; where funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Richard Shamer officiating. Interment Zion U. M. Church Cemetery, Shipley, MD.
