Russell M. Bly, Jr., age 86, of Mt. Airy, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD.
He was born April 14, 1928 in Strasburg, VA, the son of the late Russell M. Bly, Sr. and the late Eva Ella Bly (nee Jenkins).
He was an engineer for B & O Railroad for 43 years. He started work on the Rail Road at 14 years old shoveling coal on a steam engine. He was active, believing Christian and helped start Lake Shore Baptist Church and Mt. Airy Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his farm and spending time with friends.
He was the Husband of the late Elenora McDonaldson Bly.
Survived by sons Russell Bly III and wife Connie, Darrell Bly Sr. and wife Theresa, Wendell N. Bly and wife Danita, and daughter Jandell Haines and husband Michael; survived by sister Molly Painter, predeceased by brother Beverly N. Bly and sisters Treva Copp and Adelaide Coffelt.
Survived by 14 grandchildren, 22 great grand children, predeceased by 2 great grandchildren. Survived by dear friend and companion Joan Hertsch.
