Suzanne Lee Carr (Gunn), age 69, of Taylorsville, MD, died Sunday, December 1, 2013 at her home after a 7-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born December 27, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Charles Jake Gunn, Jr. and the late Jeanne Ruth Borton Gunn. She was the wife of Samuel J. Carr, Sr. and celebrated their 51st Anniversary on September 9th.
She retired from Random House, Inc. in 1999 with 25 years of dedicated service, having worked in Accounts Payable & Inventory Control. After enjoying a few years of “retirement” spending time with her family at their second home in Romney, West Virginia and vacationing in Tennessee & the Caribbean with her daughter, she began working for Carroll County Foods in 2002. She retired from their Accounting Department in 2007 due to the disability caused by her cancer treatments.
A lifelong lover of horses, she had been a competitive rider and avid fox hunter for many years. Later in life she enjoyed trail-riding with good friends and her granddaughters. She was a long time member of the Taylorsville Hunt Club and served as its Treasurer until her death. She was a loyal supporter of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department. For more than 20 years she worked in the Pit Beef Stand at their annual carnival and also volunteered at many of their other fundraising events. She was an outdoor enthusiast who particularly liked vegetable & flower gardening as well as bird & squirrel feeding/watching. She enjoyed reading, movies, films & theater. Additionally, she loved country music, dancing and attending concerts with her sisters and good friends.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are son Samuel J. Carr, Jr. and wife Terry of Taylorsville; daughter Shay J. Carr and companion Douglas Bauerlien of Westminster; granddaughters Jill M. Carr of Woodbine, Rachel N. Carr of Winfield, and Mystic Sullivan of McSherrystown, PA; great-grandson Donald Snyder, IV of McSherrystown, PA; sisters Jeanne Forney and husband Allen of Brookeville and Patricia A. Davis of Mt. Airy; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service was held on Monday, December 2 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory. The family kindly requests NO flowers be send in condolence.
