Walter Malinak, age 92, of Frederick, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, in Frederick, MD. Born April 22, 1924 in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of the late Nestor Maliniak and Mary Halaburda Maliniak. He worked as an engineer for the Naval Ordnance Lab in White Oak, MD. Walter served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II from 1943 – 1945. During his retirement years, Walter was an active member of the VFW Post in Mt. Airy, MD as well as the American Legion. He was also a member of the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his daughter, Debbie Malinak, of Gettysburg, PA, and his son, Mark Malinak, of Cummington, MA. Walter is also survived by his brother Russell Malinak, his sisters, Helen Haviland and Olga Orzol and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mt. Airy, MD on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. Inurnment at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery will occur at a later date.
