William Purdum
July 16, 1930 — January 1, 2024
William Edward Purdum (Bill) 93 of Woodsboro, Md joined his Lord
and maker on January 1, 2024 at 12:25 am at FMH. Born July 16, 1930
near Mt Airy, Md. He was the son of late William W. and Bessie Rae Garver
Purdum.
Grew up on family farm and belonged to Locust Grove Church of the Brethren.
Later he joined Frederick Church of the Brethren and was very active in the church
and continued playing the organ and piano. He was also a chorus member at the church.
He also loved playing for people at wedding and funerals. In the late 60”s William
was a member of the Society for the Preservation & Encouragement of Barber Shop
Quartet Singing in America. He loved being a Piano teacher throughout his life and
taught many students. Throughout his life he wore many hats, early on as custodian
for FMH and Hood College, Type setter for Enterprise Printing, Service worker for
Church World Service Center in New Windsor. William also loved doing crossword puzzles.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews, along with numerous great nieces and
nephews. Niece Anna Marie and Karen helped him when they could along with
his great niece Diane Bodmer. Special thanks to his wonderful friend /neighbor of
20+ years Miss Cora Snyder, she was a true angel. And many thanks to his other
neighbors. Also thanks to ones that kept in touch with so many lovely letters and cards
through the years, he had kept them and treasured them.
He was preceded in death by three sisters – Elizabeth Hoff, Margaret Horton, Dorothy Warfield;
and one brother Albert Purdum. The family will receive friends at Burrier –Queen Funeral Home
1212 W. Old Liberty Rd Winfield, Md 21784 on Friday, January 5, 2024 11 AM to 12 PM when services will take place at the funeral home.
