William Sween

William R. Sween, age 88, of Westminster, died April 6, 2015. Mr. Sween was born September 19, 1926 in Frostburg, Maryland. He was the husband of Margaret H. Sween to whom he was married for 63 years.
Mr. Sween served as a Staff Sergeant with the Army Air Force and was stationed at Johnston Island in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an avid golfer who built his retirement home on a golf course on the fourteenth and eighteenth holes so he could go out and play a few holes whenever he wanted. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and volunteered with the Boys Scouts of America. Mr. Sween was employed as General Manager of Triangle Pacific Corporation in Beltsville, MD for 32 years before his retirement in 1989.
Passing through Honolulu in 1943 he vowed to return to the island and did so many times and became very familiar with the Hawaiian culture and language. Ho’omaluhia.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret H. Sween, his 5 children and their spouses: Cornelius and Susan Leary, Nancy Sween, Phillip and Carol Gallahan, Kurt and Laura Vosloh and William and Tina Sween; and seven grandchildren: Amanda Sweeney, Aaron Gallahan, Kate Ireland Leary, Emily Bartgis, Rachel Gallahan, April Sween and Alta Sween.
