William Lewin Thomas, Jr., 88 of New Windsor, passed suddenly on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at home.
He was born October 24, 1928, in San Pedro, CA the son of the late William Lewin Thomas, Sr. & the late Mary Ellen Bowen Thomas. Lew was the Beloved husband of Joyce Owen Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a veteran of WWII as a member of the Navy and later a member of the Marine Corps during the period between World War II and the Korean War. He then went to college on the GI Bill and graduated from the University of MD at College Park with a BS in Agronomy. After this, Lewin worked as a Dairy Farmer in Taneytown. Lew then changed careers to education becoming an Elementary School Principal. He then went into the Aviation Insurance Industry as an adjuster where he eventually retired from Avemco Corporation in Frederick, Maryland.
William enjoyed flying small planes, triathlons, gardening, collecting rocks & minerals, and raising honey bees.
He is survived by his sons William Lewin III and wife Jackie Thomas of Finksburg, and Laurence S. Thomas of Clermont, FL. Lew is also survived by his sister Diane Perry of Taneytown. Lew's grandchildren include Billy & Lucia Thomas of Elkridge, Elizabeth Thomas of Finksburg, Megan E. Thomas of Gainesville, FL, and Laurence S. Thomas, Jr. of Clermont, FL.
Memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
