William Leroy Willie, Jr., of Mt. Airy, MD passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024. He was at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved husband of Lisa Willie of 36 years.
He was born March 8, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late John Alton Retzler and the late Jennie Virginia Retzler (nee Bauer).
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army. After serving in the Army, he joined BGE in the Electric Distribution Division, starting as an Overhead Lineman Trainee progressing into Supervision. He learned his trade quickly and took pride in his work. He loved spending time with his friends and family and especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He was known to enjoy an occasional cigar and Wild Turkey was his drink of choice. Throughout his life he was an active member of several clubs, including the Good Timers, Tee to Green Golf, Beagle Club, Elgerts Sportsman and Grace’s Cabin Hunting Club. He attended church as a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Michael John Willie & wife Naomi Willie of Albuquerque, NM and Sarah Grace Pohuski and husband Daniel Joseph Pohuski of Mt. Airy, MD, and the light of his life, grandson William Thomas Pohuski.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784 (beside South Carroll High School).
Celebration of Life service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church 16151 Old Frederick Rd, Mount Airy, MD 21771 on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 11 AM.
Scattering service to follow at Calvary’s Memory Garden.
