Zelda Mayer

Zelda Grey Mayer (nee Holcomb), age 84, of Sykesville, died Friday, August 03, 2012 at Fairhaven Health Care Center in Sykesville, MD. She was born December 16, 1927 in Crichton, West Virginia the daughter of the late Jesse Lee Holcomb and the late Carrie McClung Holcomb Kolb. She was the wife of Harry Russell Mayer of Sykesville of 64 years. She was a homemaker. She was a well-known Rug Hooker. She loved to play Scrabble and enjoyed gardening. She was the mother of David Mayer of Fairfield, PA., and Jackie Norris and husband George of Libertytown, MD. Survived by sister Peggy Bushman and husband Lee of Ocala, Florida, brother in laws- C. Stanley Mayer of Sykesville, Robert Zeiler of Donnellon, Florida, Step-sisters Margaret Gardner and Ruth McCullough; very special nephew Jerry Mayer and very special nieces Joan Mayer and Connie Schultheis; 5 grandchildren- Michael Mayer, Tim Mayer and wife Julie, Julie Holtzople and husband David Cummings, Katie Latimer and husband Danny, Jerred Holtzople and wife Vicki; 9 great grandchildren- Tyler, Emily and Lauren Holtzople, Erika and Amy Latimer, Ellie and Max Cummings, Ryan and Whitney Mayer. Proceeded in death by sisters Vonita Mayer, Uldine Zeiler, Brothers Ronald Holcomb, Jesse (Whitey) Holcomb, sister in law Nancy Holcomb and brother in laws Skip McCullough and Ed Gardner. Friends may call the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville (Beside South Carroll High School) on Sunday from 2-5 PM. Funeral Service will be held at the Chapel at Fairhaven, 7200 Third Ave., Sykesville on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Wayne Larson, Chaplain at Fairhaven officiating.
